What is Local Search?

The next lesson in Honest SEO Basics is here! This week, we start the conversation of local searching and why it can be a big deal.

Hi I’m Vi Wickam and this is Honest SEO Basics for Social Edge and the Get Listed Program.

Now, one of the questions I get asked a lot is, “What is Local Search?” And the easy answer is if you’re searching for something local to you – that’s local search.

So when I search for “Hamburger Stand in Loveland”, or I search for “Denver Broccoli Truck”, or I search for “Retail Store- ‘insert your name of your type of business here’…”, or “Toy Shop in LaGuardia, New York”, or “Gift Shop in San Marcus, California”, etc.

Those are all local searches.

Now, why local search matters is because a third of the traffic on the internet, a third of the searches being typed into Google are local searches. And if you aren’t showing up on those local searches, you’re not showing up on the internet. Because local search matters to local businesses.
