In this next tip for the Honest SEO Basics series, I continue the conversation of local search. Why does it even matter and where can it get you? Take a listen!
Hi, I’m Vi Wickam, and this is an Honest SEO Basics Quick Tip for Social Edge and the Get Listed Program.
Now, why does Local Search matter? I mean, really, why does local search matter? It’s a good question!
Probably 10-15 years ago, local search didn’t matter as much as it does today. Back then, you could put your name in the phone book, and that was pretty good. People would be able to find your business.
Well, not so much today. People don’t even use the phone books. Other than to look up their competitors, to hold the door open… maybe if you’re short, you could use it to sit up taller in your chair!
Phone books aren’t where it’s at anymore. Local search is where it’s at.
Now, when I say local search, what I mean is when people in your locality are looking for a type of business that you fit into, whether that’s a retail shop or a service business.
When somebody searches for “Plumbers in Los Angles”, or somebody searches for “Gift Shops in New York”, you want to be found, because the phone book is no more and what matters today is Google.
So, local search matters if you want to discover new customers today. And the place where it’s most important is on Google.
If you can’t get found on Google, when someone is searching for you with the local search, you’re not getting found.
If you want people to find your business, local search is one the best ways that’s available today. And that’s your quick SEO tip! See you next time!
